Goddard Hot Springs Day Trip

Located 16 miles by boat south of Sitka on Baranof Island, nestled within the temperate forest and rolling muskegs, lies Goddard hot springs.

These natural hot springs are mineral rich and were historically used by Alaskan natives and early Europeans. In the early 20th century, a commercial venture started when Dr. F.L. Goddard bought the land around the springs and constructed a 3-story sanitarium that featured the 150-degree water and its renowned healing properties. Today, Goddard hot springs is a favorite of Sitkans who travel by boat to take a soak after a long day of fishing or working. There are two private red cedar bathhouses with stainless tubs, running hot and cold water, and sweeping views of the islands around Hot Spring bay.

There have been countless times guests have been sitting in these magical springs listening to the sound of humpback whales foraging in the bay in front of the springs. If the water in the tubs has you too warm, then run down the boardwalk and jump into the icy Pacific Ocean to cool down! North Pacific Saltwater Charters provides transport to and from the hot springs, lightering to beach to access hot springs, drinks, snacks, and towels.

We will be cruising to the springs on the largest and most luxurious charter boat in Sitka. Our 45-foot ¾ walkaround Northriver boat is the ultimate platform with ample space to view wildlife on our trip to the springs and a luxurious wheelhouse that has a stand-up head, heat, a full kitchen, seating for 8, and state of the art electronics.
