Sitka Fishing Charters Crew, Boats and Gear

Captain Jon Martin
Captain Jon was raised in Sitka, Alaska where he spent his childhood camping, fishing and hunting with his family. After high school, Jon served in the US Army followed by attending college where he earned a bachelors and a master degree in biology. When Jon is not taking folks on Sitka fishing charters during the summer months, he works as a hunting guide in Alaska and is a professor of biology at the University of Alaska. If you ask Jon which job he enjoys the most, you will most likely get a chuckle followed by him letting you know “none of them feel like work.” With a lifetime of experience on the ocean and in the woods in Alaska, Jon has the knowledge and passion that results in providing guests with a first-class experience. Jon continues to live in Sitka year-round with his wife Amanda, their two daughters Hannah and Brianna, and Chesapeake Bay Retriever Buck.

Our Boat and Gear

We are excited to announce that North River boats is building a brand-new charter boat for our 2025 season! Measuring over 45 feet long and 12.5 feet wide, this new boat will be Sitka’s premier charter boat. She will be configured as a ¾ walkaround to maximize the fishing platform while also providing an interior with all the amenities including state of the art electronics, a full kitchen, a standup head with a shower, fridge, freezer, a dinette table, forward facing copilot seats, and powered by triple Yamaha 300hp engines. The sheer size of this vessel allows it to be incredibly stable and safe even in some of the roughest conditions on the ocean. If you are interested in fishing on Sitka’s most luxurious charter boat then please reach out to Jon for booking details.

PHOTOS COMING SOON!

Mooching is our favorite method to fish salmon in the saltwater on these Sitka fishing charters. We use G•Loomis 1084C Salmon/Steelhead Mooching rods with Shimano Tekotas for that setup. For halibut we have custom rods paired with Accurate Reels plus a couple of electric Tanacom 1000’s by Daiwa for assistance on those big flatfish.
